ODM party leader Raila Odinga says that he first met Deputy President William Ruto in 1978 when Ruto was first elected as a member of parliament in Eldoret North.

"I met DP Ruto in 1978," Raila said.

Talking of his working experience with DP Ruto, the former Prime Minister said that after 2007/2008 elections, he appointed Ruto as Minister for Agriculture although a section of the political divide as opposed to his appointment.

Raila revealed that the PNU side was uncomfortable with DP Ruto being part of the Cabinet but the former he brushed them off telling them that they can't choose for him whom to represent ODM in the Cabinet.

"I appointed William Ruto as Minister for Agriculture...When we were negotiating a joint cabinet I had my list of ministers, the other side was not comfortable with the name William Ruto, they said they didn’t want him," he stated.
