The meeting by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga held on March 9 seems to have rattled Deputy President William Ruto’s allies with suspicion the development might change Jubilee’s 2022 deal on the presidential race.
Nakuru and Nyandarua leaders welcomed the meeting by Kenyatta and Raila but warned that that should not in any way ‘sabotage’ the DP.
Speaking when Ruto toured Nyandarua and Nakuru on Saturday, leaders said Jubilee’s deal with Ruto must be honoured.
“We welcome Baba, but he should know that we have a man we are mentoring to take over in 2022. That should be clear,” Nyandarua Women Rep Catherine Waruguru said.
Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia said the county will be behind the DP fully come 2022.
Jubilee has been categorical that they will back DP Ruto after President Kenyatta retires, however, the ‘reunion’ of Uhuru and Raila seems to have created suspicion in Ruto’s camp.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui also welcomed the move to have Uhuru and Raila meet but emphasized on honouring the Kenyatta-Ruto deal.
