Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa has said the 2022 presidential election will be a one-horse race.
Ichung'wa argued that Deputy President William Ruto does not have a worthy competitor and thus will easily succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.According to the Jubilee MP, all aspirants who have declared interest in the top seat cannot match DP Ruto.Speaking to journalists in Karai, Kikuyu Town on Saturday, the lawmaker said that majority of those eyeing the top seat in 2022 have no clear development agenda and lack the political manpower to lead the country."The 2022 presidential election will be a one-horse race that DP Ruto will easily win," he said.The MP said that DP Ruto has a development track record under the Jubilee government. He said that the former Turbo MP understands the challenges facing the country and will address them if he succeeds President Kenyatta.The lawmaker at the same time defended their push to have DP Ruto ascend to power, dismissing claims that they are engaging in early campaigns, He noted that they are only selling Ruto's agenda and manifesto.Ichung'wa is among Mt Kenya MPs drumming up support for DP Ruto in 2022.A section of leaders in the region has guaranteed Ruto of their support in 2022. Last week, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga castigated DP Ruto accusing him of engaging in early campaigns instead of helping the President realise his Big Four agenda.Raila asked Ruto to stop claiming that he will be president in 2022.
