Former Agriculture Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has asked the office of the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to speed up the probe into an alleged assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Thursday, Kirwa said the matter should not been taken casually, adding that Ruto cannot make such a claim without any evidence.
He urged detectives behind the probe to come to the bottom of the matter for the sake of peace.
According to him, the alleged assassination plot against the Deputy President has exposed the high level of tribalism in the country.
“We should not take such allegations casually, remember there is a lot of tribal suspicion in this country,” he said.
Kirwa's remarks come barely a day after the DP allegedly insisted that he can only record a statement with DCI George Kinoti himself, and not a junior officer.
Kinoti reportedly sent head of Economic Crime Unit Michael Sang to meet Ruto over the matter, but his effort didn’t bear fruits.
Reports indicate that Sang waited for hours on Monday to talk to Ruto over the issue, but he decided to leave when he realized nothing was forthcoming.
“(Sang) was kept waiting for the better part of Monday afternoon in vain. We are still waiting for the way forward,” said an informed officer, as quoted by Standard.
