Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has faulted the national government for allegedly favouring foreign contractors over local ones in the award of tenders.
Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday in Nakuru, Kinyanjui said that the government has not been keen on helping local contractors lamenting that it has pushed local contractors out of business because of favouritism.
“It is sad that multi-billion contracts are all warded to foreign firms that have also been given preferential preference and incentives yet they don’t play tax. The government is busy humiliating Kenyan contractors who at the end of the day pay taxes to it. Where on earth can a government do this and then come back to claim that it is facing an economic downturn?” posed Kinyanjui.
He questioned why the government has been very keen on awarding contracts to companies from foreign nations at the expense of the locally developed firms.
He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto not to keep quiet when Kenyans are complaining over the issue.
He termed it sad that the government asks local contractors to pay taxes but doesn’t support them in the awarding of contracts.
