Former Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow has blasted Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura after he claimed there are six million voters in the Central Kenya region.
While arguing why the leaders from the region were opposed to the parliamentary system, Mwaura said Central Kenya is underrepresented in National because it has a high population but a few constituencies.
The Senator quoted Ruiru which has 160,000 voters arguing it should be subdivided into three constituencies to ensure the principle of one man one vote is observed.
“The national average is 67,000, meaning Ruiru deserves three MPs. A parliamentary system will not account for the 6 million votes from the region. Mt Kenya voters are missing 13 parliamentary seats already. A parliamentary system is rigged against them. Universal suffrage remains our cardinal rule. One man one vote,” he said.
Reacting to the sentiments, Kerrow accused Mwaura of inflating the figure, noting the 2009 Population Census put the number of Kikuyus in the whole country at six million and, therefore, there can't be six million voters in Central Kenya.
He expressed concern that the Senator's remarks could be a strategy to manipulate figures of the recently conducted Housing and Population Census.
"6 million votes from Central? This dude should read 2009 Census. Central's population was 4.3 million. The entire Kikuyu population was 6 million! How does a population of 6M become 6M votes. Ama it's a strategy to psyche Kenyans to a sexed-up 2019 Census? We don't suffer fools!" Kerrow tweeted on Monday.
