The two who worked closely from 2006 but parted ways in 2011, after rumours emerged that Raila failed to hold his end of the bargain concerning an MOU they had had. In 2007, Ruto was instrumental in Mr Odinga's presidential bid.

Kisiang'ani now claims that Dr Ruto's decision to abandon Mr Odinga has paid dividends given that he has since been elected as DP.

"If William Ruto had remained with Raila Odinga he would never have become our DP," he said.

Ruto combined forces with President Uhuru Kenyatta, winning 2013 and 2017 polls jointly. He's keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, the DP quest for State House has been in turmoil after Mr Odinga opted to work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Previously, Ruto has admitted that his journey to reach the top has not been easy, narrating his difficult upbringing.

“My father bought me my first shoe in 1981 from a ‘Mr. Onyango’ on the streets for Ksh.60,” he said in a past function.

“Today, the gentleman who did not have shoes is sitting at the high table with the son of the founding father,” he added.
