A section of Kenya National Union of Teachers from Luo Nyanza has vowed to support their Secretary-General Wilson Sossion.
Speaking in Kisumu West Sub-County on Tuesday, KNUT Deputy Secretary-General Hesbon Otieno told teachers to avoid deploying external forces to solve disputes between teachers.
He said what happened in the past was for a good purpose, adding that it has made them stronger as teachers of the Republic of Kenya.
“Let us not have people from external helping us to solve our internal issues. I know that time we did what we did for a purpose and out of that we have emerged stronger as teachers of this republic,” said Otieno.
He said KNUT will not die, even if their employer Teacher Service Commission (TSC) does not deduct their dues, saying they will find a way to do so, promising unwavering support for Sossion.
KNUT’s first Vice-Chairman, Collins Oyoo slammed TSC for acting as a stumbling block, adding that TSC has always been fighting KNUT.
“Survival for teachers then was not possible because there was no union, KNUT was not paid and those who formed this union had a very good reason to do so. I know TSC forced some of us to leave, please join the union today,” Oyoo pleaded with the teachers.
Nyanza region KNUT Secretary-General Tobias Ogalo who seemed to have a tough stand against Sossion’s ouster confessed in public that he will support him (Sossion ) further asking the region's KNUT fraternity to embrace the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) agenda.
“The handshake brought about both negative and positive impacts, but let’s embrace BBI now. if there is something not clear let us know, but let us support it,” he said.
According to Sossion, everyone has the right to oppose his leadership, adding that he will work so closely with Otieno.
“The handshake thing is a gone case. We are already looking at the future of the union. Let no one say there was disunity in the office, we are a democratic country and people are free to express themselves,” said Sossion.
Sossion reiterated that there is no grudge between him and those who opposed him, promising to work together with his colleagues to ensure teachers get what they deserve.
