Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has doubted President Uhuru Kenyatta's sincerity in his endorsement of Jubilee Party candidate for the concluded Kibra by-election, McDonald Mariga.
After his nomination, Mariga received an endorsement from the president at the Nairobi statehouse, which Mutua says was a simple act by the president to loosen himself.
Speaking on Wednesday, the county boss pointed out that Mariga was an imposition, not only to Kibra residents but Uhuru as well, and the president was not in support of his bid.
"In don't think he had personal blessings of the president. Uhuru alimpa (gave him) blessings just for the sake of being his party candidate," he said on Radio Citizen, Wednesday morning.
Mutua who campaigned for ODM's Imran Okoth, who proceeded to win the seat, also took the opportunity to attack Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka over his dynamic stand.
He pointed out that Musyoka, having months ago pledged to work with Uhuru, was expected to campaign for Imran, whom he said enjoyed Uhuru's backing, but was nowhere to be seen.
"Yeye kama alisema atafanya kazi na Uhuru mbona hakuja kucampaignia Imran na anajua ndiye alikuwa candidate wa Uhuru? Hii kukosa msimamo ndio hatutaki," he added.
This translates to: "He said he will work with Uhuru, why then didn't he come to campaign for Imran, Uhuru's candidate? This kind of double standards is what we don't like."
Kalonzo declared support for Ford Kenya candidate Khamisi Butichi in the Kibra race.
