Renowned blogger Dennis Itumbi has weighed in on the ongoing protests in Mwiki over the poor state of roads.
Itumbi on Thursday urged the National Police Service to react to the concerns raised by Mwiki protesters, whose demands he described as legitimate, by calling for solutions and not to lob teargas at them and beat up the protesters who are now protesting for the fourth day.
"Day 4 Kasarani-Mwiki protests demanding good roads. Dear @NPSOfficial_KE as I told yesterday learn to react to legitimate demands by calling for solutions. In this case @KeNHAKenya @KURAroads @TransportKE NOT Teargas and beatings!" Itumbi wrote on Twitter.
Residents of Mwiki started protests this week in a bid to exert pressure on the government to intervene and help repair the roads in Kasarani constituency.
There have been concerns that members of the law enforcement agencies deployed to quell the protests used excessive force on the protesters who have reportedly been staging peaceful protests.
Videos circulated widely on social media platforms appear to show the protesters being beaten up as other choke on teargas smoke.
Public service vehicles plying the route also joined the protests to urge action on the poor state of the roads.
