Members of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) were on Friday locked out of an education conference which President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to open.
The conference is organised by the ministry of education and would discuss issues surrounding implementation of Competence Based Carriculum.
According to the Nation, the officials were kicked out of the KICC on grounds that they did not have accreditation. They were asked to visit the ministry of interior to be cleared.
"They were asked to get badges for the forum from the Ministry of Interior," a Knut official told the Nation.
In the recent past, Knut has opposed implementation of CBC, arguing that teachers were not ready for the change. The ministry has however stood firm.
KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion has in the past accused Prof George Magoha of bullying the teachers, adding that teachers ought to be listened to.
But Magoha, who was appointed this year by President Uhuru Kenyatta, maintains that CBC implementation must go on since it's the president's legacy.
“The CBC is one of the President’s legacy projects which the government is keen to ensure it succeeds,” said Prof Magoha.
