Leadership crisis at the University of Nairobi (UoN) has persisted after the institutions Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Planning Isaac Mbeche reportedly asked for leave.
In a circular to students and other stakeholders, embattled Vice-Chancellor Prof Stephen Kiama announced that Prof Madara Ogot will be acting in Mbeche capacity, according to the Star.
The changes come after the court reversed Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha’s order to revoke Kiama's appointment.
Until his recent appointment into the new office, Madara served as deputy vice-chancellor for research, innovation and enterprise.
Prof Kiama has remained unshaken despite Magoha writing to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) seeking investigations into the University Council’s decision to name him as the VC.
Magoha argued that he was not consulted over the appointment before he rendered it invalid.
The court directed that Kiama will remain in office until the case is determined.
Kiama was expected to be installed into office on Tuesday but the process did not proceed.
Amid leadership wrangles at UoN, the new VC had warned stakeholders against engaging with any other person apart from him.
"This is to inform all stakeholders and collaborators that any person or institution entering into a contract with any other person other than the legally appointed Vice Chancellor purporting to represent the university does so at their own peril ..." he said, in a statement quoted by the Star.
