At least 4,300 residents of Mansabubu in Garissa County are set to benefit from Kenya Red Cross water supply project that aims at providing clean water in the area.

The project was implemented by Kenya Red Cross and funded by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS).

This was revealed Thursday during the launch of the water supply project which brought many locals as well as the Red Cross and KRCS officials.

During the ceremony Dr. Asha Mohammed the Secretary-General Designate of the Kenya Red cross acknowledged KRCS' efforts for helping the people of Mansabubu get clean water.

“We are grateful to the Kuwait Red crescent Society for supporting the people of Mansabubu, Garissa with this water supply project. They have also funded other water projects in Wajir and Kilifi,” she said.

Garissa county is among counties that have suffered from lack of water but now they will quench their thirst following the opening of the project.

According to Zauda Hakofira Jilo, a local resident the water supply will help many people who have been suffering from lack of access to clean water.

“We are really happy to have water brought near to us. We used to fetch water from a nearby river which is quite dangerous. Many of our people have been killed by crocodiles. My own daughter in law was attacked but luckily escaped,” said Zauda.
