Reviving controversy surrounding 1982 foiled coup will not help anyone win State House race, Raila Odinga's Spokesman Dennis Onyango has said.
In an apparent reference to a series of messages written by Dennis Itumbi, a close ally of DP William Ruto, Onyango said 'history leaves many stranded'.
According to him, the debate will flop because even Daniel Moi, who was almost overthrown, no longer cares about the coup.
"I did say that history leaves many stranded when it is taking a turn. In 2019, some people still think the attempted coup of 1982 can help them in 2022. Even the man who was being overthrown no longer cares. Talk of being left behind," he wrote.
In his response to his text, Itumbi fired back, wondering why the coup took place yet Moi's government was democratically constituted.
"Then why would those who tried to have a Government thrown out ILLEGALLY - even bother, if it does not COUNT? For the record the 1982 COUP was not about a Man, it was about a NATION. But to the violent, that is STRANGE philosophy. Little wonder you think it was about MOI. Sad!" he posed.
Itumbi has been writing a series of texts, implicating Raila, the current opposition leader as a man who tolerates chaos and deceit in his quest for power.
Although he has never been convicted of being part of the organisers, Raila was detained for several years in relation to the coup.
The coup was executed by a handful of Kenya Air Force servicemen. Coup leader Hezekiah Ochuka was hanged in 1987.
