Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has what it takes to take over as the next Mt Kenya kingpin, political commentator Ambrose Weda has observed.
The ex-CS has been appearing like one of the possible contenders for the defacto seat, ahead of President Uhuru's Kenyatta's expected retirement after the lapse of his term in 2022.
Weda on Wednesday stated that Kiunjuri, who hails from Laikipia County, has the needed wisdom to take over and should be ignored, even after his sacking on Tuesday.
"Yes, he has the potential to take over. Its the wisdom that took him to the cabinet that he needs to take over, he should not be brushed off," he said on KBC English Service, Wednesday.
The High Court advocate based his observation on Kiunjuri's young age, which would make him stand out when compared to others eyeing the seat, and which also makes him more vibrant.
He also suggested that Kiunjuri's vocal nature makes him more popular, one of the requirements needed for such positions.
"Age is on his side, he must have also amassed lots of money and has proved that he can make a lot of noise," he stated.
Kiunjuri has been seen to be closer to Deputy President William Ruto than to President Uhuru Kenyatta, which may have informed his sacking, pundits say.
