Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has decried cases of unemployed youth languishing in abject poverty when the government is doing little to help them.
The lawmaker has now revealed his plans to draft a bill to salvage the situation with immediate effect.
According to the draft Bill, every unemployed youth stands to pocket Sh12, 000 every four months
The Bill, which is dubbed the Social Assistance (Amendment) Legislative Proposal, 2018, is expected to remedy some of the problems youths in this country have been facing while on the job market in the name of looking for employment only to end up frustrated by potential employers.
The legislator wants the Social Assistance Act of 2013 in which anyone without a source of income receives payment from the government to sustain them as they seek for means of survival.
The MP has affirmed that the new development will ensure that cases of crime in the country are reduced.
“The Bill amends the definition of financial assistance to include a hardship allowance. For an unemployed person to qualify for social assistance, the Bill requires that one must be registered with the National Employment Authority,” stipulates the proposal.
The lawmaker has already presented the Bill to the Budget and Appropriation Committee as he seeks for advice on the matter.
He has urged lawmakers to embrace the Bill for the sake of unemployed youths in the country who are living a life of hopelessness.
