Deputy President William Ruto's rallies in Western Kenya are attracting huge crowds, former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has observed.
Khalwale said the enormous masses were a clear indication that the DP was about to conquer the vote-rich region, popularly referred to as the 'Mulembe' Nation.
"We have finally succeeded in attracting humongous audiences into William Ruto rallies in Western. Our region is winnable. Just a matter of time.." he tweeted.
The former lawmaker made the observation when Ruto held a rally at Mumboha grounds in Luanda Constituency, Vihiga County, on Friday to support women groups.
He thanked the residents of Western Kenya for giving the DP a warm welcome and being part of his team which seeks to transform Kenya after the 2022 general election.
"Today I saw so many people at Ruto's rally in Luanda, Vihiga, that I almost thought I was at Malinya Stadium where I call ALL the shots. Western, thank you for being part of the dream of the New Kenya," Khalwale added.
The DP has been making inroads in the 'Mulembe' Nation drumming up support for his 2022 presidential bid and has already managed to win the hearts of a section political bigwigs in the area.
They include his former harsh critics such as Khalwale, former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga and a host of current and former Members of Parliament.
However, Ruto has been facing stiff opposition from politicians who hail from the populous region also interested in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta.
They are Amani National Congress party leader Musalia Mudavadi, his Ford-Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang'ula and Kamamega Senator Wycliffe Oparanya, who is also Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader.
