Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i on Friday donated free helmets to bodaboda riders.
Speaking when she handed over the helmets to Kisii bodaboda riders on behalf of CS Matiang'i at Kisii Boys National School, Kisii Women Representative Janet Ong'era said Matiang'i had pledged to buy the helmets to riders in a bid to ensure the safety of bodaboda riders while at work.
"Matiang'i sent me to issue 1,000 helmets to Kisii bodaboda riders on his behalf because he could not attend the pass out of bodaboda riders who have undergone a thorough driving training. The helmets will help the riders protect themselves and their clients while at work," she said.
The ODM allied legislator urged bodaboda riders to embrace road safety measures for the sake of ensuring sanity on the roads.
She vowed to continue engaging other leaders from Gusii region to support bodaboda riders.
"Bodaboda sector has created jobs for our youths and therefore as leaders, we need to offer support to youths who have ventured into the bodaboda business to boost their earnings," she stated.
Ong'era assured that Matiang'i will also donate helmets to bodaboda riders in Nyamira in a date which is yet to be set.
