The lawmaker is among leaders from Uhuru's Mt Kenya backyard who have been campaigning for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, despite Uhuru's warnings.

He now says that his actions should not be seen as defiance to the president, stating that he is only working with Ruto as that's the side that make's "sense to him".

In an interview with the Nation published on Sunday, Ndindi Nyoro said that contrary to criticisms that he lacks honour for the president, he actually respects his elders.

"No one disrespects Uhuru. I respect leaders who are older than me. I’m not responsible for how other people interpret things, I’m only responsible for what I do and say,” the MP said as quoted by Nation.

He further defended his dalliance with Ruto, terming him his mentor and a man who has always been ready to help whenever needed.

The youthful parliamentarian stated that given that Uhuru will not be vying for any seat in 2022, himself and fellow leaders had to look elsewhere and settled on Ruto.

Ndindi Nyoro is among Mt Kenya politicians who stand out due to their support for Ruto, others including Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Alice Wahome (Kandara) and Moses Kuria (Gatundu South).
