The women representative for Nyamira county Hon. Jerusha Mong'ina has urged parents for the entire county to ensure that the girls are in safe and secure conditions.
Speaking on Tuesday morning at a function in Nyabite Market, the women rep said that the girl child is an endangered species hence needs to be taken good care of.
She urged parents to share ideas and listen to the privacy issues of their children with girls especially. She urged mothers to watch out for their children because many kids go through a lot especially in their teen ages. This will enable them to solve the challenges the children go through thus averting danger.
"I take this opportunity to urge and alert the parents in my entire county to ensure that the children whom out for the long holiday are safe especially the girlchild. Remember that this is a festive season so let the boundaries of our children be limited and the safer ones. You know the challenges that our girls go through such as early pregnancies and dropping out of school. Kindly let us be very keen about this so that we can be able to transform the of future our young people," said Mong'ina at a Nyabite.
The women representative also added that it doesn't mean that she had discriminated boys. She also said even boys need to be keen and careful with life. She urged boys to work smart in schools and engage themselves in reasonable activities.
"I also urge my young boys to remain focused and work smart in school. Moreover, I urge them to engage themselves in meaningful activities such as sports so that those with various talents can be able to nurture their talents as nowadays many people earn a living through their talents. We will continue to support the boys also to ensure they attain there desired goals," added Jerusha.
