Residents of Riobonyo village in Kenyenya, Kisii County were left in shock on Wednesday morning after the body of a middle-aged man was found buried in a shallow grave.
Kisii Police Commander Martin Kibet said the deceased hailed from Mogambi area.
"A resident who was inspecting his crops at the farm spotted the head of the deceased from the shallow grave and raised alarm. Police officers from Kenyenya were called only to find the deceased buried in a shallow grave," Kibet said.
Kibet said the deceased sat for KCSE exams last year from a local secondary school and the last time he was seen was on Sunday at Riobonyo were he was playing pool with other local youths who are yet to be questioned by police.
He said the body of the deceased might have been buried on Sunday and it had visible injuries on the head.
"A probe has been launched to establish the motive behind the killing. Police officers moved the body from the scene and took it to Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital morgue," Kibet added.
Kibet urged residents to report anyone they suspect is behind the killing to report.
