National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has weighed in on the vexed question on how the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report should be adopted.
Speaking in his constituency on Saturday, Duale urged those rooting for a referendum to stop airing their frustrations in public forums, and instead follow the due referendum process.
He said a referendum can only happen if the proponents collect at least one million signatures, adding that the latter should follow Thirdway Alliance party leader Ekuru Aukot's footsteps.
"If you want a referendum don't shout at us, go get one million signatures like Dr Ekuru Aukot. (Kama unataka referendum usitupigie kelele sisi, kwenda chukua one million signatures kama yule jamaa Mturkana Dr Ekuru utuletee), "Duale said. (0:22-0:32)
Duale's remarks comes in the wake of a public tussle between those vouching for a referendum and those against it.
A section of Mount Kenya region leaders, after being holed up at a hotel in Embu County, decided that they would not support a referendum and said the BBI should be taken to Parliament for consideration.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has insisted that Kenyans should ultimately decide whether the BBI report sees the light of day or not and not Members of Parliament.
