Thirdway Alliance Party Leader Ekuru Aukot has laughed at Members of Parliament who have downplayed his Punguza Mizigo push.
A good number of the parliamentarians have announced plans to block the bill, led by National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale.
Speaking in Murang'a on Tuesday, the former presidential aspirant noted that the bill only needs members of the county assemblies to evolve into constitutional amendments.
He made the remarks when he presented the bill to the Murang'a county assembly for possible approval, as he seeks to among others, reduce the number of parliamentary seats.
Despite attempts to convince Murang'a MCAs to back his bill, it faced stiff opposition from County Assembly Speaker Nduati Kariuki who observed that some of its clauses are unfavourable.
"The Bill should have clearly stated the intended purposes when it comes to the fight against graft. It might end up jailing those involved in bribing a police officer with Sh200 for life since they can’t afford a battery of lawyers and leave suspects of economic crimes since they can afford to buy justice and hire [many] of lawyers,” said Nduati as quoted by Daily Nation.
The bill only needs the backing of at least 24 County Assemblies to sail through.
