Obonya has affirmed that the members of the County Assembly will not approve the new bill, which is seeking to reduce the number of members of parliament.

He noted that the Bill would have only been passed if President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga had thrown their weight behind it.

He insisted that Raila and Uhuru are the sources of direction when it comes to such issues and when they say no the leaders will not object their word.

Obongoya, a nominated Member of County Assembly,  accused Ekuro Aukot of using the Bill to seek popularity after losing the contest to unseat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2017 General elections.

“No Bill will pass through the assembly without the blessings of President Uhuru and ODM Leader Raila Odinga,” said Obongoya, as quoted by Standard.

He said that the County Assembly, as well as the people, are eagerly waiting for the report on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

He also said that they will not hesitate to go to the ballot for a referendum if Uhuru and Raila recommend the same.

Aukot has been urging county assemblies to back the Bill as he seeks to strength devolution.
