The Kenya Premier League (KPL) double header pitying newbies Kisumu All Stars against soldiers Ulinzi Stars and Gor Mahia versus Tusker FC played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu last Saturday raised over Sh500, 000 through ticket sales.
The report of gate collections shared by Kisumu All Stars Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nicholas Ochieng in a local WhatsApp group indicate that a total of Sh511, 000 was collected from fans for the two games, with Gor Mahia being entitled to 80% of the money collected after meeting all expenses while Kisumu All Stars takes home 20%.
According to the report, total expenses amounted to Sh333, 750. The expenses include hiring of the ground, paying county askaris, ambulance, police and stewards from Nairobi and Kisumu among others.
This means the actual amount left after subtraction of expenses is Sh177, 250. The amount due to Gor Mahia is Sh141, 800, while the amount due to Kisumu All Stars is Sh35, 450.
This seems to have irked Kisumu All Stars CEO.
“I have written to KPL informing them that next time we would wish that our game is not lined up for a double header. I am sure we would have collected over Sh200, 000 from the Ulinzi game,” said the CEO in an interview on Tuesday.
The CEO said that according to KPL rules, a double header featuring AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia means that the two clubs walk away with 80% of the gate collections after all expenses are met.
