Two survivors from the fatal Awasi road accidents have narrated the events in the deadly accident.

The accident which happened on Friday morning at Pala area in Awasi, Kisumu County killed 13 people while several others survived with different injuries. 

Survivors have given their different accounts of the accident. 

According to a middle-aged man, the bus, belonging to Eldoret Express was being driven at a fast speed when it collided head-on with a trailer.  

''When we passed Awasi junction, the road was clear. The bus started going at a high speed. (Tulipopita Awasi junction, sasa barabara ilikua safi. Kuendesha gari ile speed ikaongezeka ikawa sasa inaenda kwa mwendo wa kasi), he told Citizen TV.

The man, who survived with various injuries pointed out that when he saw the bus moving uncontrollably, he started praying. 

While he was still praying, he heard the bus driver shouting. 

"When I closed my eyes to pray, I didn't last long when I heard the driver shouting, then the bus knocked something. (Nlipofunga macho nikaanza kuomba, haikuenda muda mrefu, nikaskia driver amepiga kelele, Nikaskia gari imegonga kitu na ikaanguka),'' he added. 

Another survivor, Caroline Adhiambo, a mother of two children, also narrated how her account of the accident. 

Caroline, who was travelling with her two children, noted that she realized the accident had happened when they were already down. 

‘’I came from Luanda and was going to Machakos. On arrival at Awasi, we had an accident and I can't say what happened cause I only realized it when we were down, people praying and others crying. (Nimetoka Lwanda nikienda Machakos. Sasa kufika Awasi, tulipata accident na siezi eleza chenye ilitendeka mi nlishtuka tu tuko chini, watu wanaomba, wanapiga nduru),’’ she said.

Unfortunately, Caroline lost her younger child in the accident. 

''I was surprised to look at the child I was carrying had been choked by a metal. The kid died on spot. (Sa dio nlishtuka kuangalia mtoto mwenye nimebeba chuma ya gari imemufinya shingo. Alikufa tu hapo hapo),’’ she added. 

Her other child survived the accident with small injuries.
