Deputy President William Ruto has revealed how members of KANU abandoned President Uhuru Kenyatta after he lost the 2002 General elections.
Speaking during an interview with NTV on Thursday at his Karen Home in Nairobi, Ruto said that they were more than 50 MPs at State House when the commission was announcing the election results for the Presidency but when it comes to Uhuru delivering his concession speech they were only three.
“For your information in 2002, when former President decided Uhuru is going to be our candidate very many people gave lukewarm support. I stood by Uhuru Kenyatta up to where he conceded. Let me tell you a story. When we were sitting in State House as the results came in we were almost 50 members of parliament but when that time came for Uhuru Kenyatta to go and make the concession speech, we left statehouse 50 we arrived Serena three,” he said.
Ruto insisted that he has supported President Kenyatta wholeheartedly and with passion.
He, however, said that he never gave him conditions when he was seeking to ascend to power. Ruto also praised the handshake during the interview. He has since promised to attend the BBI rallies in different parts of the nation.
