A motion of no confidence against the Kiambu finance minister, Mary Nguli has been tabled in the county assembly and supported by fifty MCAs with twelve opposing it.
The motion accusing Nguli of ten counts of financial impropriety and lack of accountability in her docket was tabled before the assembly by Karai Ward MCA Njenga Magua.
Magua says that the motion is not politically motivated.
“There is no politics in this. We are just squaring things out,” said Magua.
However, the twelve MCAs who opposed the motion led by Ngewa ward Karungo Thang’wa say that there is more than meets the eye and believe that the motion is meant to cover up for Governor William Kabogo.
They have asked the governor to appear before the senate as asked and answer the queries regarding misuse of public funds by his government.
Those opposed to the motion have warned him that failure to do so will see them table a motion of no confidence against him.
“Why do they want to send Nguli home when she and the governor have been asked to appear before the senate? Don’t you think there is something they are trying to hide so that when time to appear before the senate comes they will say the one who misappropriated the funds is no longer in office? Let them wait until the two go to the senate,” says Thang’wa.
In the meantime, Kiambu deputy speaker Gathii Irungu, constituted a seven member committee to probe Nguli to establish whether there is substantial ground to send her home.
The committee will table its report before the house for debate.
