Detectives are investigating an incident in which the body of a 12-year-old schoolboy was found dangling on a tree in Subukia sub-county’s Maombi village.
Police believe the teenager committed suicide by hanging himself on a tree on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, area police boss Alex Nga’ng’a said they were alerted by herders who were grazing their cattle before finding the body.
“We were informed by a group of herders of the suicide,” he said, adding that investigations have been launched.
The deceased’s parents told journalists that the boy left home on Sunday morning but failed to return, prompting them to start a search.
Mr Nga’ng’a indicated that the boy might have taken his life over financial problems being faced by his family.
He, however stated that the ongoing investigations will reveal the exact cause of the suicide.
The police boss has since urged parents to monitor the activities of their children to curb such situations.
