Several leaders who spoke to Daily Nation, have now asked the government to reconsider the requirements betting firms need to comply with before they remain operational.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has said that some individuals have been misleading President Uhuru Kenyatta and Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on the revenues from the sector

The senator, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, asked Uhuru to relook at the regulations of betting firms before an action is taken.

“Some individuals are misleading the President and CS Matiangi on the actual revenue of betting companies,” ‘said Mr Malala, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura also said that the pressure on betting firms is too much.

The senator said that the fight to ensure that the firms comply with the betting regulations should be undertaken with sobriety.

The lawmaker said that unless the matter is looked at from a different perspective, a number of Kenyans employed in the sector risk losing their jobs at the end of the day.

“Let us be realistic. If we kill the industry, it will be worse. The best thing for everyone is to ensure that there is tight regulation,” he said.
