Regional Directors of Education have been informed about the new changes.

Initially, schools were supposed to open on August 26. However, the new circular indicates that the schools will officially open on September 2.

The closing date of the schools for the third term has also been set for October 25, 2019.

The decision was made after the National census dates coincided with school opening dates.

According to the government calendar, the census has been scheduled on August 24 and 25.

“For the forthcoming census to be successful, it is the desire of the National Bureau of Statistics that there be minimum movements of the population so that they may get as many people as possible in conventional households,” read part of the circular quoted by the Citizen Digital.

Students too will be counted in the exercise that is meant to know the country's population.

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has already assured Kenyans that they are prepared for the census.

KNBS Director-General Zachary Mwangi indicated that this year's census will make use of newer technology to meet the world standards.

“The KNBS is working round the clock to ensure preparations for the census are completed within the agreed timelines and meet the internationally recognized thresholds,” said Mwangi during a media briefing.
