A four-year-old boy was burnt to death following a battery explosion at their home in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
The incident happened on Thursday, when the boy and his older sister were reportedly trying to connect wires to the battery in their home in Kapkures village in Kaplamboi location.
Area village elder Joel Sityenei confirmed the incident, saying that it happened in the absence of the children's mother, who had left for a nearby centre.
He said that the mother left the children locked up in the house as she went to buy some tea for the family.
The incident was also confirmed by Nominated Member of County Assembly Caroline Kilisia.
Residents said that they heard a loud bang and rushed to the scene in a bid to help the victims.
However, they found the house on fire, with efforts to put it out also proving futile as the fire was spreading too fast.
The girl who is aged 7 escaped by climbing out through the window, while her brother was burnt beyond recognition.
