Ndarugu MCA Simon Komu, has warned the people in his ward who have encroached on the county roads and footpaths to surrender them immediately or face legal action.
Komu said this in Kagema, Gatundu South, while speaking to furious residents who were demonstrating demanding that the county government gives them a path from Mathage to Karatu.
The demonstrators said that the path they have been using was on private land and has since been closed.
“What is the work of this county government if we can be walking all this long just to get to a place that is nose to mouth away? There is no footpath or road connecting us to Karatu,” said Cecilia Wambui, a resident.
“There are people who grabbed the county footpaths that had been allocated during Mzee’s government. They have made them their own property and all that is left for us is to walk for miles because no one will allow us to trespass on their lands,” Daniel Gitau, an elderly resident said.
The MCA has promised them that the footpaths will be reclaimed and asked the grabbers to surrender them before the law catches up with them.
