Political analyst Mark Bichachi has said that former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has only himself to blame for his sacking by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday.
The President, while addressing the press at the Mombasa State Lodge, replaced Kiunjuri with his former Trade and Industrialization counterpart Peter Munya.
The commentator opines that Kiunjuri should not be seen as a loser, as he only got what he was pushing for and what he deserved after demonstrating his unwillingness to perform.
According to him, it's questionable why the CS failed to prevent the locust menace that has affected some counties, despite the open fact that he was aware of the approaching menace.
"I dont think Kiunjuri is a loser. He's gotten what he wanted and what he deserved. When you talk about locusts coming from Yemen, there is no way the CS for Agriculture was not aware of the locusts coming," he said on KTN on Sunday.
He added that similarly, Kiunjuri's political actions have also contributed to his firing, given that he has been openly contradicting the president's stand.
According to Bichachi, it was unrealistic to expect him to perform yet he was not in agreement with the president's policies.
"My question is; Can you be busy campaigning agaisnt what the wishes of the president are and still be able to perform? That cannot work because in cabinet you serve at the behest of the president," he added.
Kiunjuri's major undoing seems to be his stand on the Building Bridhes Initiative (BBI), where he has been questioning the move contrary to Uhuru's endorsement of the same.
