Mwangi Kiunjuri is among Kenyan leaders aligned to Tanga Tanga movement that is on forefront championing for Deputy President William Ruto's presidency in 2022 general elections.

The now-former CS has on recent past sparked memes on various social media platforms after he told Kenyans to take pictures of insects they suspect are locusts and post them on social media to enable government officials to strategise on tackling them.

The timely coming of locusts might have been a symbolic prelude of Mwangi Kiunjuri's firing.

Locusts are known to cause devastating effects on crops wherever they pass. Some of the African communities feed on them.

In the book of Exodus, locusts are one of 10 plagues delivered upon Egypt after Pharaoh refused to free the enslaved Israelites.

The question in many Kenyans mind now is, are the locusts ravaging parts of Meru, Mandera, Wajir, Laikipia, Kirinyaga and Samburu counties symbolic to fall of political heavyweights (crops) but see locals flourish (communities that will feed on them)?

In Chinua Achebe's 'Things Fall Apart', locusts are used to symbolize the coming of Europeans and devastation they will cause to the society and their cherished culture.

Among positive effects that 'locusts' brought was Western education, Christianity and hospitals.

Negative impacts involved deaths, divisions and erosion of African culture.

Does locusts presence in Kenya signify fall and disintegration of once-strong political parties, political heavyweights and BBI movement?

As biblical locusts manifested God's wrath on Pharaoh and a prelude of impending dangerous calamity that was to befall Egyptians, do locusts in Kenya symbolize for future hard times?

As "locusts" in Chinua Achebe's symbolized coming of Europeans to Igbo society and their eventual impact on the society does "locusts" in Kenya symbolize the rise of a new government in future? Are locusts a blessing in disguise? Only time will tell.
