Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has called for the legalisation of marijuana in a bid to rescue cancer patients.

On his official Facebook page, Sonko said that According to research, marijuana has medicinal value.

He observed that many countries in the world have legalised bhang as an antidote for terminal illnesses.

 He noted bhang suppresses pain in cancer patients.

"The USA and most countries in the world have legalised marijuana as an antidote for terminal diseases including cancer. The catholic sisters of the valley, based in California and several states take weed/Marijuana as it has been confirmed to have medicinal value to suppress pain to cancer patients and so many other terminal ailments," read the post in part

Sonko said that the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth was in order in his call for the legalisation of the drug.

"So the late Hon. Ken Okoth to have thought of bringing and tabling the Marijuana bill, he must have done his thorough research as well," he wrote.

During the deceased Kibra MPs memorial mass, Sonko called on MPs to push for the debate on the legalisation of Marijuana in memory of Okoth who had fought for the passing of the bill. 

Countries that have legalised marijuana include Argentina, Colombia, Italy, Jamaica, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, Thailand among others.
