According to Citizen Digital, the charge sheet indicated that Itumbi who was charged alongside Samwel Gateri published the alleged false document on or before June 20, 2019. It is alleged that the two intended to cause anxiety among the general public through the letter.

Itumbi and Gateri, however, pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Martha Mutuku on Tuesday.

The charges against the two stem from a fake letter that claimed there was an assassination plot against Deputy President William Ruto.

Further investigations into the case revealed that the letter was written at a cyber cafe in Lang’ata area. The revelation came after police in Kenya collaborated with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) in the probe.

According to the letter, a meeting took place at Hotel La Mada on Thika Road with DP Ruto being the main topic of discussion.

On June 24, 2019, three cabinet secretaries were summoned by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over alleged involvement in the alleged assassination plot. The cabinet secretaries, however, dismissed the allegations, terming them as cheap propaganda.
