The cabinet secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr Fred Matiang'i has reacted to the arrest of three individuals in Dadaab for engaging in the trafficking of contraband goods.
Writing on Twitter on Thursday, the tough-talking cabinet secretary hailed the arrest of the trio as a vindication of the work that is being done by law enforcement officers against illicit trade.
He said that the work being done to deal with sources of terrorist financing would continue.
"Today's arrest of three people involved in the ferrying of contraband goods from Dadaab to Nairobi is a vindication of our all-out offensive against illicit trade as we proactively seek to track down and snuff out terrorist financing, " the Interior CS wrote in his Thursday tweet.Kenya continues to grapple with the challenge of contraband goods smuggled into the country from Somalia including sugar that law enforement agencies fear are used in the financing of terrorism activities.The seizure of the illicit goods was confirmed by the Interior Ministry on its Twitter handle."The multi-agency team dispatched to wage the war on terrorist financing continues ticking off operatives, financiers and sympathizers of the enemy, with the latest success being the arrest of three men linked to the concealment and transportation of contraband into the country, " the tweet read.
