Mrs Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu drowned and it's only after 11 days wreckages of their vehicle was spotted by KDF divers.

A section of leaders from Nyamira led by Jubilee youth leader Ben Mogaka questioned the efforts by KDF towards recovery of the vehicle on Monday.

"It's been several hours yet KDF has done very little. They are equipped to handle such missions but it's funny that they are not getting it right," he said.

But Major (Rtd) John Ondieki has defended the KDF team, arguing that despite that recovery is not their primary role, the team has been camping at the site.

The former army man in an interview on Wednesday said KDF team had to do some logistics before diving into the ocean for recovery.

"The team camped at the site for all these days. There are some things you put in order before diving. We also have weather conditions. The life of the diver must be safe first. They have done a good job."

Similar sentiments were echoed by another retired soldier Charles Manwa, who said KDF's role should be appreciated given the one week dedication.

According to Cyrus Oguna, the government spokesperson, the divers located the vehicle on Wednesday and the number plates have since been confirmed.
