The officers from the Anti Counterfeit Authority (ACA) undertook the exercise as the government steps up its bid in the war against contraband goods.

While confirming the incident, chair of the Board of ACA, Ms Flora Mutahi, said that goods were burned to ashes at the at the Coast Clay Works, Changamwe.

The items included cosmetics, circuit breakers, clothing, stationeries and footwear.

The exercise was undertaken in the presence of Coast Regional Manager Mr Yusuf Osman and ACA CEO Elama Halake.  Mutahi said that the authority was not ready to tolerate any case of businessmen handling counterfeit goods, adding that crackdowns will be organised to ensure all the fake goods are no longer sold anywhere in the country.

''This is a clear violation of the Anti -Counterfeit Act 2008 law of Kenya,'' Mutahi, as quoted by Standard.

She also exuded confidence that there are seizures across the country as the government seeks to make the country contraband free. She also said that the officers have to spare some time out of their busy schedule to ensure that the contraband goods are not sold.

Several businessmen have been put on the spot over the sale of fake goods.
