A form one student at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School in Bungoma County was on Wednesday found dead, with reports indicating that she committed suicide.
A report on the Nation indicates that the student hanged herself with a bed sheet in one of the school dormitories.
Confirming the incident earlier today, acting Bungoma South police boss Johnstone Lyambila said investigations have been launched to determine why the student committed suicide.
“Concerning a student who committed suicide at Cardinal Otunga Girls High School, the DCI officers and others visited the school on Wednesday to ascertain what had happened," he said as quoted by Nation.
Lyambila said a note was found in the scene of the crime, but did not share the contents of the note with the press.
“We are checking the note to establish if it was from the student or from other sources. We cannot tell whether it came from the student. That is why we are not going to disclose its contents,'' he said.
A number of students who spoke to Nation claimed the deceased had been shamed on the parade after she allegedly forged her end term marks.
“Our friend filled in a fresh Geography exam paper and awarded herself a score of 93 percent. She sneaked into the staff room and placed it inside the subject teacher's desk, where other exam sheets had been kept,” one of the students said as quoted by Nation.
The school principal and management had not issued a statement at the time of publishing this story.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary.
