Members of Parliament (MPs) are reportedly pushing to be paid allowances to attend parliamentary sessions at night.
Reports on Nation indicate that the lawmakers are now seeking to be given allowances before they can attend sessions scheduled at night hours.
The legislators have reportedly opined that attending sessions at night is working overtime and therefore needs to be compensated.
Reports indicate that if the allowance is successfully introduced, an MP who attends all the four sessions in a week could bag Sh96,000, totalling to Sh384,000 a month.
A section of MPs have, however, claimed that they are not aware of the allowance.
Speaking to Nation, Minority Whip in the National Assembly Junet Mohammed noted that he was not in Parliament last week and needed to confirm.
Dagoretti North legislator Simba Arati also denied being aware of the allowance.
"I don’t know about it, but if it is there, then I will definitely claim it," he said as quoted by Nation.
Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Lyn Mengich said she was yet to receive official communication on the allowance.
"I don’t have any formal confirmation on that and can’t really tell you anything about it,” she said.
