Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura has alleged that the government is broke and cannot sustain itself.
In an interview with NTV Am Live on Monday, Mwaura said that the government has now embarked on the crackdown on tax evaders and cancellations of various projects because of lack of funds to sustain them.
He cited the case of the cancellation of the Kimwarer Dam project.
He noted that the current regime is not doing well amid assurance from President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He urged the government to retrace its footsteps on foreign debts for the sake of economic empowerment of the people of Kenya
“The government is broke and cannot sustain itself, that is why KRA wants to snoop in people's accounts. If the government collects this money where will it go, to Arror and Kimwarer?” he said.
Prof Herman Manyora, who spoke on the same show, said that he agrees with Mwaura that the government is not doing well as far as development is concerned.
He said that cases of massive corruption have derailed President Uhuru Kenyatta's development agenda.
“I think we all agree we are not doing well, we are mismanaging our resources. We are creating a situation where someone like Sonko can become president because his message resonates with the crowd,” he said.
He further urged leaders to unite to ensure there is development in different sectors of the economy.
