Opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday held a brief meeting with Zimbabwe's second Vice President Kembo Mohadi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Mr Odinga was headed to Uganda for an international meeting while Mr Mohadi was headed to South Sudan for an official mission on behalf of his country.
The two leaders have a history dating back to the time Mr Odinga served as the country's roads minister between 2003 to 2005 before exiting.
"Earlier today, H. E Raila Odinga met Mr. Kembo Mohadi, the Vice President of Zimbabwe who was on his way to Juba, South Sudan. The two have a friendship dating back to the NARC regime when Mr Odinga was Roads, Housing and Public Works Minister," an aide, Philip Nyamai said.
Mr Mohadi was picked as Vice President by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He took over in 2018 after the ouster of veteran politician Robert Mugabe.
Mogabe,95, died two weeks ago and he's set to be buried at National Heroes Acre in Harare. President Uhuru Kenyatta was among those attended national burial on Saturday.
“The late Comrade Mugabe was an embodiment of the Pan-African spirit, offering immeasurable assistance and solidarity to many other African countries in their struggles to end colonial rule and apartheid,” the President said.
Raila, who had a fairly bad relationship with Mugabe, did not attend the burial. At one point, he was barred from traveling to Zimbabwe due to his relationship with former opposition leader Morgan Tsivangirai.
After the coup, Mnangagwa also appointed former army boss Constantino Chiwenga as the first Vice President of Zimbabwe. Mr Odinga is known for creating international networks.
The aide however, did not give further details on the meeting by the two leaders. Raila will be attending Public and Private Partnership conference in Kampala.
