Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has given the Galana Kulalu Irrigation project a clean bill of health after touring the project on Thursday.
The project which is located in Tana River has been marred with allegations of misappropriation of funds, following allegations that the contractor had abandoned the project.
Speaking when he supervised the 1000 acre project on Thursday, the former Prime Minister rubbished the claims, saying that the contractor is doing a good job.
"We have come here to witness for ourselves, we were hearing reports that funds for the project have been embezzled but we have witnessed something good," he said.
Israeli firm Green Arava, the contractor, and the National Irrigation Board (NIB) have been at loggerheads over the project lately, with NIB accusing the contract of removing its instalment from the area, therefore stalling the project.
But the remarks were rubbished by Green Arava Chair Yavir Kedar, who said that they are implementing the project as per the agreement with the government.
"We never left and we are still on the ground implementing the project, we have already spent Sh5.2 billion on the project," he said.
Raila was accompanied by area Governor Dhadho Godhana, NIB Chairman Joshua Toro and Kilifi governor Amason Kingi, whose county the project protrudes into.
