Both 'Embrace' and 'Inua Mama' Lawmakers have reiterated that they are ready to put their differences aside to ensure that the bill succeeds. The women want parliament to create more slots for them.

In their address at the Parliamentary Buildings on Tuesday, the lawmakers said that time has come for women to fight for their rights. The female leaders said that they will not change their tune as far as the bill is concerned until their needs are addressed.

Led by Priscila Nyokabi, the leaders said that their differences will not deter them from fighting for their rights.

“While it is true that there is division among us, there is no harm in that because women too have different perspectives but on issues affecting women we will fight from one corner,” Nyokabi said.

Kirinyaga women Purity Ngirici reiterated Nyokabi’s remarks.  According to the current constitution, not more than two-thirds of the elected leaders can be from the same gender.

Leaders who were present during the press conference were Rehab Mukami (Nyeri), Fatuma Gedi (Wajir), Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Margaret Kamar (Uasin Gishu), Florence Mutua (Busia), Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), Esther Passaris (Nairobi), Rosa Buyu (Kisumu) and Mary Seneta (nominated),
