President Uhuru Kenyatta’s allies are set to clash with those backing Deputy President William Ruto in the senate as they debate on the impeachment of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.
The debate on whether to save Waititu or show him the door will see Tanga Tanga legislators flex muscles with those under the Kieleweka camp.
Led by Senator Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, the TangaTanga team has been accusing Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) of fighting graft selectively.
The leaders have been lamenting that the two offices have been targeting the allies of the second in command while those supporting the handshake are walking scot-free when resources in their administrative units cannot be accounted for.
In May, DP Ruto came forth to defend Waituti over graft allegations but his woes have deepened after he was blocked from accessing his office. Days later, Waititu received another shocker after the MCAs resolved to impeach him from office.
“People should stop asking Waititu questions that have no basis. He should be asked questions about Kiambu County. We have Cabinet secretaries to answer queries touching on the national government. We should be asked about South Sudan, retired presidents and State House. The Bible tells us that everybody should carry his/her cross. Baba Yao (Mr Waititu) should not be left to carry across that is not his,” Ruto had said.
On his part, Waititu has maintained that he is innocent. He argues that his woes are politically instigated. His Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko and Moses Kassaine of Samburu have also been blocked from accessing their respective offices over graft.
