A family in Nakuru is calling for the speedy arrest of a suspect accused of raping, and impregnating their daughter.
According to the family, the police are doing little to arrest the man accused of defiling their 16-year-old daughter, who is set to join Form One this year.
The family claimed the 24-year-old suspect has gone into hiding after committing the offence on December 26, 2018.
According to the girl, the suspect allegedly dragged her to a thicket while she was heading home, committed the heinous act, and warned her not to tell anyone about it.
“I feared I would be stigmatised if I revealed what happened, but after some time, I could hide no more,” she said as quoted by Standard.
Speaking to the same publication, her mother said the matter was reported at the Keringet Police Station, but police are yet to arrest the suspect who's a Theology student at a Bible college in Bomet County.
“Police have been taking us round in circles and whenever I ask how far they have gone with investigations, they threaten to take action against me, saying I am an irresponsible mother," she said.
“I would have solved the matter with the elders, but the family of the suspect is not cooperating, and continues to abuse and intimidate me. I am pained because this is happening at a time my daughter is supposed to join secondary school," she added.
Nakuru County police commander Stephen Matu said investigations into the incident are ongoing adding that the suspect will be arrested.
“Efforts to arrest the suspect are ongoing. We are also looking into allegations raised against the police officer,” said Matu.
