The residents have continued with their demonstrations following the arrest of a police officer, Constable Titus Ngamau Musila, commonly known as Katitu for allegedly shooting a ‘known’ criminal in the area.

Gathogo said that the justice system in Kenya does not allow an innocent person to be jailed and the residents will have to wait till the court decides on what to do with the policeman.

In addition to murder allegations, Katitu is also accused of misusing his official weapon.

Gathogo added that the accused officer failed to ask for a bond and thus the court could not issue him one.

“I am appealing to the residents of Githurai to be patient and wait until September 17 when the court will decide according to the statements and evidence it has. There is no need for demonstrations as the law is just and equal for all,” Gathogo explained.

Githurai residents have in the past one week been engaging the police, blocking the Thika highway several times and paralysing operations in Nairobi city and also Thika town.

The demonstrators insist that the police officer is innocent and should not be victimised for carrying out his duties.

Another demonstration is scheduled to be held today by the residents if the officer is not acquitted.
