Deputy President William Ruto on Monday sent a special message to leaders from the Gusii community.

Ruto attended a Bodaboda Sacco empowerment function at Rigoma, Kitutu Masaba Constituency, Nyamira County.

While addressing the public, Ruto challenged leaders from the entire Gusii region to be development oriented as measure to eradicate poverty.

"Empowering our youths should be a top priority. Leaders must ensure jobless youths are empowered through helping them get capital to start business to earn a living," said Ruto.

He encouraged youths to form cooperatives and self-help groups, adding that they help them aggregate value, boost earnings, ensure daily subsistence and start viable enterprises.

Ruto who is eyeing the presidency in 2022, challenged MPs, MCAs present to stop giving youths handouts. 

"There is need for leaders to stop inciting jobless youths to hurl insults to other leaders with an aim of seeking political mileage," added the DP.

Further, DP confirmed that he is focused to help President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver towards the implementation of the Big 4 Agenda. 

Ruto was accompanied by MPs Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko, Sylvanus Osoro of South Mugirango, Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri, Bonchari MP John Oyioka, West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi among other leaders.
